Finally invited to the Yahoo! Publisher Network

I finally got my invite to the Yahoo! Publisher Network. The publisher network lets you set up ads on your website. I originally applied for the beta several months back. I’d pretty much forgotten about it until I saw mail from them this morning informing me that I’d been accepted to participate in the publisher network.

So now I have a real dilemma. Am I seriously going to make what few readers I have look at ads? It’s not like I have a lot of compelling content. Really, the only posts that get any serious attention are my posts about the Yahoo! Mail Beta.

I’m thinking I may try starting with ads on the main page and see what happens. More than anything, I’m just curious to see what the ads look like in the page and to see what kinds of ads YPN serves up for my site.

What do you think? Is it stupid to put up ads when you have little of interest to share with the world in return?

What harm can come from it?

    Ryan,
It’s OK to put in an ad or two. I don’t mind them like some people do. They are distracting if they are too flashy but I can’t imagine the ads on your site will be anything but unobtrusive!.
BTW, I sent an email to Yahoo! re: the mail beta. A: spellcheck with Firefox 1.5? B: Cannot add attachments in Firefox (the box comes up so short in width that I can’t see the “browse” button for attachments.

Thanks for all of your help and knowledge,
    Melinda

i’ve been invited as well but since i’m french can’t create an account (???!!!!)
You can always try to put your ads until the first payment and decided whether you wanna keep them or not

Guillaume, yeah…unless you’re a US taxpayer they can’t currently reconcile the tax issue. I would hope they’ll fix that soonish, but as they’re still in beta I wouldn’t hold my breath.

Can you rev share with your readers… ? :-)

Hmmm…I’ll have to set up logins so I know what revenue to attribute to which readers. ;)

I snuck some ads in my RSS feed and on single-post archive pages. Nobody has complained, but then again nobody has clicked. Freeloading weasels.
