If you could show us some photo, that’s will be great!

  2. Alex Porter says:

Sounds like you’re putting on the finishing touches….I sure can’t wait for Yahoo! to expand the beta to those who signed up for the beta on the first day ;)

  3. Ryan says:

Alex, we might still have a few tricks up our sleeve. ;)
I also can’t wait for the beta to be opened up to more users. As I’ve said before, I’d love to open the beta to everyone right now…but I’m not in charge of such things.

  4. Ryan says:

Frankie, there’s not much new to see visually in this build. It’s just bug fixes. If you want screenshots, you can check out one of my earlier posts.

    Hey Ryan,

I know you hate these kinda things, but I work for the New York Times Regional Newspaper Group. I write a technology column in a variety of our newspapers and magazines. I am interested in doing a review of the new Yahoo! Mail Beta for some of the papers and also talk about other things, Podcasts, Ajax, and all that other good stuff. I have a Yahoo! ID and mail account, however it hasn’t propogated the new beta look and feel yet. Is it possible for the media to gain access? Do you have a contact I can go through?

Thanks and I like your blog!

    Thanks again,
    Tyler

    Ryan,

The new build looks great! I’ve noticed on the forum that lots of folks wanted the notepad availabilty back. I did also get a message that my browser is not compatible so I use Firefox instead. Have you seen Guillaumes screenshot “wish list” on the forum? I think you all are doing a great job.

    Melinda

  7. Ryan says:

Tyler, I’ll ask someone to get in touch with you.

  8. Ryan says:

Melinda, yeah…folks on the forum weren’t the only ones who wanted a Notepad link back. ;) I actually use Notepad to store all of my weekly status reports.

Yeah, the frontend guys finally decided to put up the warning page for people using unsupported browser + OS configurations. I haven’t actually seen it myself as I’m always using Firefox on Windows XP. Maybe I’ll have to whip out Opera so I can see what it looks like.

I have actually seen Guillaume’s “wish list” screenshots. I don’t work on the frontend part of the beta, so I’m not sure if that’s the direction the beta will head or not. I do know that we have some brilliant user experience and design people working on the beta, though. So I have faith that they’ll continue making the product look great.

  9. Tyler Clark says:

Ryan, thanks a lot. If I can write the article(s), I’ll make sure to bring attention to your blog if you don’t mind. It’s good to see an employee kinda self-promoting a product for his company.

Awesome new additions I have to say. i’m glad to see the Notepad back. Com’ on now turn it into a webbased text editor à la writerly!!
See Ryan I think it is nice that you keep up posted. I really wish the Mail team could have their own blog even if this isn’t a public beta yet. I’m doing my best with the Mail Group but i’m sure everyone want to hear directly from you guys.
    Keep up the good work!

Tyler, yeah…feel free to mention my blog all you want.

  16. Ryan says:

Guillaume, I’m totally down with Notepad getting a nice facelift. I really hope it gets one since I use it all the time.

As for a mail team blog, it was considered. I don’t remember what ended up happening with it, though. It would be nice if we had something official, though. The Kahuna Windows Mail Live team has one.

  17. Ryan says:

Curt, what kind of account are you talking about? I know we put external mail accounts and Address Guard mail accounts in the pulldown if you have them. Are you referring to an email address in a domain that Yahoo! runs for you? I believe that’s the only address type we’re not currently handling properly.

  18. Ryan says:

Frankie, I definitely want to get everybody in China using the beta. The more the merrier. Hopefully we’ll have the localizations done before too long. But as I don’t work in the group that handles that, I really don’t have any visibility into it.

  19. Curt Troutwine says:

Yes, the domains that yahoo is handeling locally… the product I use is called Yahoo! Personal address …

  22. Gunz says:

Hey when is it going to be released to the public

  23. Ryan says:

Gunz, I’m not sure what the company timeline is for opening up to a larger audience.

  24. Ajay Chellappa says:

Is tagging going to be a future feature at all? Yahoo has only folder-based organization. Gmail has only Tag-based organization. Ideally people would love to have both(like Zimbra hosted demo). That’s where the world is moving towards. and I am really surprised that people use notepad this extensively.

  25. Ryan says:

Ajay, it’s hard to say on the tagging front. One of the product managers could better say what the intended direction is. Personally, I’d love to have some sort of tagging mechanism introduced. If you’ve read The Flickrization of Yahoo! you’ll see that tagging has really taken off within the company. I wouldn’t be surprised to see mail get some of that attention at some point in the future.

  26. 杨飞 says:

Gmail have a very good multi-language support, not only the Gmail language interface, but also the multi-anguage text support, how about yahoo? Is now yahoo mail beta also based on unicode text editing?Do u have any plans to launch more yahoo international local site(not only yahoo mail)I realy like yahoo!(Hotmail sucks, is not in the discussion, haha)

  27. Ryan says:

Yes, the beta is using unicode throughout much of the system (not all of it yet, unfortunately). Message handling is most definitely handling unicode. It also sends in unicode when necessary.

The interface will be localized to other locales (it’s actively being worked on), though I don’t have a list of which ones or when they’ll be ready.

  28. Frankie says:

    sounds great!!

  30. Kurt says:

When is there going to be another yahoo mail beta release posted to the blog

  31. Ryan says:

I post release notes to the blog as soon as I get them.

  32. Robin says:

Hi Ryan - with regard to this fix:

“Fixed bug where marking message read in search results didn’t propagate back to source folder ”

My problem if I delete or move a message, beta opens the next message instead of sending me back to the original folder, which is how I have my options set up. Is this a known bug, or do I have something set up incorrectly? Thanks!

  33. Ryan says:

My guess is that the option you have set only applies to the regular Yahoo! Mail and not the Beta. I’ll be the first to admit that the preferences settings in the Beta haven’t received nearly enough attention. But as I said, I think that preference only applies to the current Yahoo! Mail right now and that the Beta ignores it.

The preference you mention really only applies to the current Yahoo! Mail because it’s all page based. Since you’re not browsing away from the folder in the Beta to view the message, it’s kind of like you’re always on the original folder.

  34. Robin says:

Right, but even in Outlook you have the option to either go to the next message or back to the orginal folder. Let’s say I have one new e-mail and read it. When I delete it, why would I want the next message in that folder appear, especially if it’s a message I’ve already read? Having the option to go back to my folder seems like a good idea.

  35. i want re-open my mail cos, i find out the value of opening a yahoo mail.thanks

  36. jimmy says:

wait do you go to depaul ?
