Serenity is due out on DVD in a little over a month, so I figured I would finally get to the theater and see it. I went to the trouble of buying the Firefly DVDs just so I’d know what’s going on, so it seemed the logical thing to do.
Serenity picks up where Firefly left off. Pursued by the Alliance, the crew of Serenity is still taking jobs of varying legal standing. But now they’re being pursued by a much more dangerous form of the Alliance: The Operative (Chiwetel Ejiofor). The Operative is a philosophical, calculating and ruthless assassin on the hunt for River (Summer Glau).
The movie serves to tie up several loose ends from Firefly that I can only assume would have been wrapped up if the series hadn’t been canceled before the first season was complete. We find out what the Alliance has done to River and why they want her so badly. One of the most interesting bits of information covered in the movie is the history of the Reavers.
There’s some gunplay, some fun flight/chase sequences and a bunch of good ‘ole ass-whoopin’. The plot is entertaining enough to make me wish the series hadn’t been canceled. I guess the best I can hope for is sequels. The special effects are good and well used. There aren’t a bunch of computer graphics thrown in for the sake of proving which movie has the biggest computer farm. The effects are realistic and don’t get in the way of telling a decent story.
The director of this movie do not understand chinese language!He is just randomly arrange some chinese charesters together.Do u notice that there r some chinese characters in the movie?The only right word is “宁静”behind SERENITY on that spacecraft,the chinese meaning of this word!
I don’t speak Chinese so I didn’t notice. But yeah, if a director is going to pick a real lanauge (as opposed to making up their own like Klingon), maybe they ought to get it right.
Who cares about that tiny mistake. That movie is one of the great sci-fi films. Instead of nitpicking maybe you guys could just sit back and enjoy the ride!
