New release of Yahoo! Mail Beta
We recently put up a new version of the beta (I think it was on October 17th or so). Here’s a list of changes for anyone interested.
- New compact header view in Reading Pane. Rollover truncated recipient list to view full list via tooltip, or switch to standard view via popup menu. Also added contact details/add contact buttons to header.
- Fix for ‘ymwsSetMessageFlag:Failed’ errors when rapidly deleting mail from a folder.
- Fix for bugs when user opts-in to Yahoo! Mail Beta with existing folders named Contacts or Calendar.
I’ll try to be better about putting these up in a more timely fashion as it seems more people are paying attention to my blog for updates.

Guillaume, I don’t see anything in the past releases about this bug you’re referring to. Email me (ryan at unclehulka.com) the details of the issue you’re seeing and I’ll check our bug database to see if it’s a known issue or not. If you can, give me the step by step details of the problem you’re seeing. That will make it easier for me to reproduce.

When you click on the yahoo mail help

Ryan, I submitted my email address to the Join the Beta Test on the very first day that link was there and haven’t heard anything. Do you know anything about how widely the new Yahoo! Mail is being tested or when I should expect to be able to access the new interface? Thanks! Alex

Kurt, I don’t see it. Are you clicking “Help” in the beta or in the other Yahoo! Mail? I do see a link from one of the pages that goes here:
http://tour.mail.yahoo.com/mailtour.html
But that’s working for me. If that’s the page you’re having problems with, make sure you have the Flash player installed.

The link that I was clicking on was
help.yahoo.com/help/in/mail/beta/beta-06.html

Kurt, thanks. I see it now. I’ll get it reported.

That beta help section (http://help.yahoo.com/help/in/mail/beta/index.html) is from the last Yahoo! Mail upgrade, when Yahoo! first added the tabs across the top and implemented the current user interface. It doesn’t have anything to do with the latest beta.

Thanks Alex. I was told basically the same thing when I brought it up in a meeting this morning. Evidently most of that stuff was removed, but this particular page was not.

With the Address book, if someone have a contact with 2 address, does the contact have to put in the address book twice.
Because right now if a contact has 2 email addresses, they are listed twice in the address book.

Even in the current product you can put up to 3 email addresses with each address book entry. You can do that with the beta as well.

When will the Next new version of the beta be put up
November 3rd, 2005 at 10:44 pm
Honestly I can’t say for two reasons:
1) I really don’t know. I just implement the features, I don’t make the decisions.
2) Even if I knew, I’m not allowed to say. I’d love to be more open about the behind the scenes development of the beta, but that’s not my call.

What about the Email addresses yahoo help to the address book

Het Ryan,
I am really pleased with the mail beta. The interface is very user- friendly, it’s sleek, fast, and perfect for my email needs. I am a font freak (This statement leads to something…really it does! Lol!) I was hoping that Yahoo! could add a few interesting fonts like Bookman Oldstyle, Papyrus, etc. It would add a bit of pizazz, don’t you think? I know that you can’t add system fonts…can you? Even a Georgia or one of the gothics would be nice.

Duh! Bookman is already there! My bad.
Thanks for everything, Melinda
