Yahoo! is finally ready to unleash the new search for Y! Mail. I got to see a lot of this stuff in its infancy during some very early demos. The refinements (links down the left side of the search results that let you narrow the results based on criteria found in the message) are really cool. There’s even quick links just below the folder view that let you instantly view every image or other attachment in your mailbox. Seriously cool stuff. The only downside is only select users currently have access to the advanced search. The issue, as the article points out, is that we have to go back and reindex every piece of mail in the system. It will take some time. The good news is, it’s a one-time cost.
Now if we can just get the new beta into everyone’s hands we’ll be in real business.
