I don’t listen to podcasts since I still don’t get them. In most cases I don’t care enough to read what a lot of people write, so I’m sure as hell not going to download their MP3 and listen to what they have to say. Tonight, though, I caved a bit and listened to Zoe’s Radio Show. I’m listening to the 4/25/05 show right now. It’s all music so far. Anyway, one thing I’ve been thinking while I listen to it is that it would be awesome if the file contained a link to the individual songs so I could figure out who I’m listening to. That got me to thinking more about podcasts in general and how it would be great if there was a format that passed along metadata in the audio stream. I remember listening to Shoutcast how Winamp would parse updated metadata in the stream to let you know who you’re listening to when songs changed. It would be great to have a similar mechanism for podcasts. You could even make it extensible so richer clients would make new metadata available in different, unique ways.
PS - Zoe…get some permalinks on your blog so we can all start linking to your posts.
