The DSL filter arrived this afternoon. In order to get a quick test to see if it was going to fix my problem, I ran my paper shredder (it’s usually able to knock my DSL offline). Sure enough, I ran the paper shredder and my DSL line dropped. I then went and installed the DSL filter in the alarm system, checked to make sure the phone lines still worked, set the alarm on the house and ran the paper shredder again. This time the DSL modem didn’t drop. This is truly a happy day. Now I just have to wait and see if this cured the other odd cases that also caused the modem to drop (garbage trucks rolling past the house, bad weather and other appliances/tools around the house that draw a decent amount of power).
The garbage truck knocked out the DSL twice this morning (once driving up the street and then again back down to the house). Guess you are happy that you do not work from home on Tuesdays.
